CertainTeed Shingle Repair: The Fresno Owner’s Guide

We stock and install CertainTeed-compatible shingles and repair parts across the Fresno area, with most individual shingle repairs running $275 – $650 depending on slope, accessibility, and how many shingles the failed section pulled loose. If your roof is leaking above the ceiling stain and you know the shingles are CertainTeed, call us at (559) 785-9461 and we’ll match the color, profile, and exposure before the end of the day. Most Fresno homeowners discover a failed shingle the same way: a small curl at the eave after a windstorm, granules collecting in the gutter, or a dark spot on the ceiling that shows up months after the shingle itself tore away.

Which CertainTeed Models This Applies To

CertainTeed makes three architectural shingle lines we repair most often in Fresno: Landmark, Landmark Pro, and Presidential Shake. Each uses a different exposure and thickness, and mixing them looks wrong from the street even if the color is close. Landmark is the standard 3-tab-to-architectural upgrade most Fresno tract homes carry; Landmark Pro is 15% thicker with a wider nailing zone; Presidential Shake is a premium dimensional shingle with a staggered, hand-cut look that is nearly impossible to patch-match without the exact dye lot.

If you don’t know which line you have, check the bundle wrapper in the garage or crawl space, or call us and we’ll pull a shingle during the estimate and read the stamp on the back. CertainTeed stamps the product name and plant code on the underside of every shingle. One thing people don’t realize: CertainTeed’s “Weathered Wood” color has shifted slightly across the three Fresno heat waves since 2008, so even a factory-correct bundle can show a faint line on a south-facing slope. We explain that before we touch anything.

Quick note on affiliation: Birchbark Roofing Fresno is an independent roofing contractor, not a CertainTeed dealer. We choose to stock CertainTeed parts because so many roofs in Fresno were built with them, but we’re not tied to any one manufacturer’s catalog.

Signs Your CertainTeed Shingle Repair Is Failing

  • Granules in the gutter or downspout splash block. CertainTeed’s ceramic-coated granules shed as the asphalt core oxidizes in Fresno heat. A thin, even layer is normal aging; a pile the size of a coffee cup under one downspout means one section is breaking down faster than the rest and needs a patch before the fiberglass mat is exposed.
  • Curled corners at the eave or rake edge. The adhesives that hold a CertainTeed shingle flat soften and re-harden every day in a Central Valley summer. After enough 100-degree cycles, corners lift and catch wind. Once a corner tears, the next rain hits the underlayment directly.
  • A dark, soft spot on the ceiling that expands after rain. This is the part failure, not the first sign. By the time the ceiling stains, moisture has typically moved through the shingle, the underlayment, and the decking. Don’t wait through another storm. Call us at (559) 785-9461.
  • Lifted shingles after a south wind event. Fresno’s prevailing winds push from the northwest, but a strong south wind hits the back slope where most roofs have less overhang and older sealant. If you see daylight under shingles after a storm, the seal strips have lost their grip and a section repair is cheaper now than a full reroof later.
  • Visible fiberglass mat in one section while neighboring shingles still have full granule coverage. That patch is the weak point. CertainTeed’s mat holds up well, but once granule loss exposes it, UV breaks it down in one Fresno summer. It will not recover.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Most CertainTeed shingle repairs on a walkable roof in Fresno run $275 – $475. A roof with a steep pitch, a second-story section, or a repair near a valley or pipe flashing can run $500 – $650 because of added safety setup and flashing rework. You’ll see your exact number in writing before any work starts, with the shingle cost broken out from labor and disposal. That written price includes the new CertainTeed shingles, sealant, replacement nails, the removal of the failed section, and a clean-up photo before the crew leaves.

Repair Scope Typical Installed Price in Fresno
Single shingle replacement, walkable roof $275 – $350
Small section (3 – 6 shingles), standard slope $350 – $500
Section plus flashing reseal or valley work $450 – $650
Steep-slope or two-story access $500 – $650

Every repair carries the 365-Day Done Right Promise. If the patch fails within a year because of our workmanship, we fix it. No invoice, no negotiation. We also honor the manufacturer’s material warranty where it applies, but most shingle failures we see in Fresno are installation- or heat-related rather than manufacturing defects, and we’ll tell you honestly which one you’re dealing with.

DIY or Call Us?

You can safely check a few things from the ground: note the color and profile of a fallen shingle, feel for soft spots on the ceiling, and photograph the roof from the sidewalk. We don’t recommend walking the roof yourself, especially after a fix. A failed shingle on a two-story Fresno roof is not a ladder job for a weekend. CertainTeed shingles need to be nailed in the nail zone – a two-inch strip – which is easy to miss when you are reaching over your head. Miss it and the shingle seals wrong, the wind gets under it, and you are right back where you started with a bigger tear. The seal strips also need clean, warm contact to bond; a shingle installed on a cool morning in November will not fuse the same way as one installed in May. We have the nail gun settings and the sealant for the season. If you want it done right the first time, the number is (559) 785-9461.
